Secret Sauce to Shine Control: Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder Translucent Natural 12 review

Having very oily skin, I’ve experimented with a lot of different products to control my shine. But the technique that has been a huge game changer is “Baking”. Basically, I apply a SH*T ton of loose powder to control my oil. But it can’t just be any loose powder; not all loose powders are created equal!

I did a ton of research on powders in the market to find what’s best for my oily skin. It MUST be finely milled in order to avoid cake face and it MUST contain enough absorbent ingredients to control shine. You’d be surprised how a lot of loose powders contain oils and other emollients. But, I think I’ve found the secret sauce to shine control.

Application

This MUFE Super Matte Loose Powder is very light and silky; it’s just as fine as Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder (aka the benchmark in this category).

The shade “Translucent Natural” has a very light peach/yellow tint to offset any white cast. I find this truly goes on translucent and blends invisibly into my NC30-35 skin. There’s little to no flashback.

Comes with a handy powder puff which I use to press on my face. Applying a generous amount, I bake this all over my face with extra attention to my Tzone. Then I use a brush to dust off the excess. It doesn’t look chalky and creates a true soft matte finish. Face looks smooth, poreless, and matte. It has a silky dry finish but is not drying.

Results

One of the main reasons I bought Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder was because I needed something “Super Matte” and true to its name, this is super matte. It makes my face look soft and flatteringly matte. NOT dry or powdery. But the reason this is so special is the shine control! Looking at the ingredients, the first half are mainly absorbents; Talc, Nylon-12, Silica, & Serica (Silk Powder). Yet it doesn’t feel drying or look cakey!

For my oily skin, I want maximum oil control and this keeps me matte for at least 4hours before a hint of shine breakthroughs. A little blot with tissue throughout the day & I’m GOOD. At the end of the day, I’m not a super grease ball, but satin-matte fresh. This has been the secret sauce to my shine control!

Pros:

  • Pretty matte finish
  • Excellent shine control
  • No white cast or flashback
  • Perfect for baking; not chalky or drying

Cons:

  • Price
